The sea front promenade has a large selection of shops, cafe and restaurants with everything from hamburgers and Italian ice creams to Chinese food. One of the two car ferries to Coralejo (Fuerteventura) docks at Playa Blanca harbour every hour. You can go swimming from the sandy beach below the promenade, in front of the hotel princess and at the near by Papagayo beaches(see under beaches). If you like walking, try a walk on Montaña Roja (red mountain) which has an easy footpath leading to the top, where there is a panoramic view to reward you for the effort of making the climb. Another walk is to Castillo del Aguila, a circular fort that was built as protection against pirates in the 18th century. The fort has two stories; the sentries were downstairs, and upstairs there was a water reservoir. the entrance is high and used to be additionally protected by a most fort built in the same way on Fuerteventura in el Cotillo and el Castillo.
