However, the cottage is not in Northern Ireland. It's in the Republic. It is about a two hour drive to our cottage from Belfast international airport, which is actually located several miles outside of Belfast city, in the countryside, to the west of the city. Our local airport is Carrickfinn airport, which provides flights from Dublin and Glasgow. Our cottage is about an hour and a half from the border with Northern Ireland, which is outside the city of Derry / Londonderry. However, there are no border guards or customs, so you don't really notice when you have crossed over (until you start seeing road signs in Irish, which means you are in the Republic). It takes about five hours to drive northwest to the cottage from Dublin airport. And it is a long day's drive north (5 hours ?), up the very picturesque west coast, from Shannon airport. Payment Policy All rates are in Euros. Special offers require immediate payment of the full sum into our bank account. Normal bookings: A firm booking will be made on receipt of a non refundable deposit of € 100, -- per week booked. The visitor is then liable for payment of the balance of the total sum due. The remainder of the balance should be sent to us six weeks prior to arrival and is non refundable . The booking agreement confers a right to occupy the accommodation for the agreed period. Cancellation Policy To cancel a booking, the visitor should advise us by telephone of the cancellation and immediately confirm the cancellation in writing. In the event of a cancellation occurring within ten weeks of the holiday a refund of the rent paid will be made only if we subsequently re-let the can celled period. After you have booked your accommodation you are responsible for the full rental even if you are unable to take your holiday as planned.It is wise to get an insurance just for the holiday. The accommodation rented should be kept clean and in good condition and any breakages reported immediately. An extra deposit of € 100, -- has to be paid when you book the cottage. This deposit will be paid back if the cottage is left as it was found. If, in the sole judgment of the owners excessive cleaning is required a cleaning charge of € 50, -- will be levied. Personal property of visitors occupying the accommodation is not the responsibility of the owners. Vehicles and personal property are left at your own risk. No pets or animals are allowed to occupy the accommodation without the owners consent. If for any reason the accommodation is not available to the visitor on the dates booked due to events beyond our reasonable control, the owners will refund money that has been paid by the visitor. The owners will have no further liability to the visitor or any other party. We reserve the right to refuse to hand over the accommodation to anyone who, in our opinion, is not suitable to take charge of the property. We live in Florida, this is our Dublin home. We will visit it for about 8 weeks per year. It is a superb, hard to beat, location for walking to every major attraction in central Dublin. The flat building is located on the river Liffey a block from O'Connell Street. We overlook the well maintained inner courtyard of the flat building and the Dublin rooftops. The flat is a penthouse and, due to its location within the building, is extremely quiet and cosy. We have (December 2011) completely renovated the flat which was built in 1994. It is, effectively, new as of this date. It has 2 good size bedrooms. The master bedroom has an extemely comfortable USA king size bed with ample wardrobe and drawer space. The master bathroom has a spacious pumped shower. The second bedroom has two large very comfortable single beds and ample wardrobe space. The second bathroom has a bathtub/electric shower combination. The large living room has a 42” LED flat screen TV, a large comfortable sofa and an additional chair. There is a workdesk for laptop use. The dining area, with its leather chairs, easily accommodates 5 people. The kitchen is small but fully equiped to serve 6 people. It has induction, very fast heating, burners, a self clean oven and a powerful extraction fan. There is a large frost free refridgerator and a Bosch dishwasher. The kitchen also contains a Miele washer and dryer. There is free, fast cable internet service (connection via both cable and wi fi to your laptop). Cable TV delivers about 80 channels, many of which are international. The phone sevice offers free calling to landlines in many overseas countries and in Ireland. The 'fifth' person is accommodated via a blowup bed in the living room. The flat is located on the top, fourth, floor (fifth by North American definition) of the building. There is a lift, access to which is by key only. There is an intercom service from the flat to the front door allowing for remote door opening. The Luas (tram) service is a one block walk and within the same distance there are numerous restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. Within a 10 minute walk are Trinty College (home of the book of Kells), Grafton Street (shopping), Temple Bar (pubs) and the GPO (scene of the 1916 uprising). A 15 minute walk will get you to the Garden of Rembrance, St Stephens Green, Dublin Castle, St Patricks Cathedral and Christchurch Cathedral. The river Liffey with its boat cruises is at your front door. Within the flat building (on the ground floor) are numerous shops, including a hair salon, a supermarket and several eating places. Within a block there are large Tesco and Marks and Spencers supermarkets and the Jervis centre shopping mall. If you plan on renting a car to see the countryside (you do NOT want one in Dublin), please ask us for our recommendations. Facing south over Roaring Water Bay and Ballydehob, this old cottage has recently been restored to a high standard: it is warm and dry and provides lovely self catering accommodation for year round living. The setting, not far from the sea, is rural and peaceful: Mount Gabriel stands to the west, hills and forestry are behind (to the north), just over the hill are Dunmanus Bay and Bantry Bay. To the east is the vibrant market town of Skibbereen and to the west the village of Schull, the sailing center of Roaring Water Bay. This is wonderfully beautiful scenery. Because of the warm Gulf Stream, tender and special plants grow luxuriously in wild and secret gardens like Garnish Island and Dereen. A whole holiday can be planned around garden visits. There are ferry boats out to the islands in Roaringwater Bay - that's another world again. Ferry boats leave from Schull in the summer months and Baltimore throughout the year. There are many beautiful sandy beaches for enjoying picnicking, swimming, body surfing, kayaking and sailing. This is a fabulous place to tour from - and west Cork and Kerry can be explored in day trips from Lisin na Cre. The Beara Peninsula is my favorite, but the choice is endless. Golf courses offer plenty of choice, horse riding can be arranged. Archaeological trips, local hill walking and exploring can be undertaken by anyone. We are real foodies in west Cork with local, organically grown fresh produce sold everywhere and at farmer's markets. So cook well at home and try local meat, fish, cheeses and vegetables and salads with just the very best breads. Or be tempted to eat out by any of the excellent restaurants and pubs. Just over the hill at Durrus, Carmel Somers (used to cook at Bibendum and at Sally Clarke in London), runs The Good Things Cafe in July and August, and then cooking courses for the rest of the year. Book well ahead for both these. On nearby Heir Island John Desmond and Ellmary Fenton run the gourmet Island Cottage restaurant but be sure to book early. Perfect for four people, this pink-washed and single storied cottage has a large living room/kitchen. There is a wood burning stove with comfortable sofas on each side, books, paintings, satellite TV and a music system.The kitchen has a painted pine table to eat around, 4 gas rings, a double electric oven, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. Electric central heating. The master bedroom has double French doors opening onto the yard and with a small garden opposite. A comfortable double bed is 5'..The second bedroom has another full sized double bed which can unzip to make two single beds. Plenty of books in each room. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom - one with a roll top bath and the other with a shower. The bathrooms have beautiful pebble floors. Duvets and pillows are goose down, the bed linen is white Egyptian cotton and there are large fluffy towels on heated towel rails. At the far end of the cottage, the old piggery is now a play castle, complete with dungeon, canon and skull and cross bones! My grandchildren are making a museum in the hen house and contributions are welcome! It is known as the Guggenhen ! There is a meadow, recently planted as a romantic orchard with wild flowers and roses and spring bulbs, and a small wood at the bottom. The Court Yard comprises a number of 1 and 2 bedroom luxury self-catering apartments and penthouses to rent all year round in Killarney town centre.
